Rudimentary transducers

A fully scored and programmed sound sculpture using 60 vibrating motors arranged on a sculptural surface - a grid that hums, shakes, and shudders to life as material, not metaphor.
Saigon Outcast Commissioned by The Kollectif for the sonic fusion exhibition at Saigon Outcast

Actuator-based sound sculpture | 2018 | Duration: 10 minutes

An array of 60 vibrating motors arranged on a sculptural surface, each independently controlled to form a precisely timed spatial composition.

The vibrating motors make vibration the compositional material.

In contrast to ambient or aleatoric sound art, this piece was fully scored and programmed around structure, force, and the physicality of oscillation.

The result: a grid that hums, shakes, and shudders to life, not as metaphor, but as material.

Originally proposed for WASP Studios’ Visualising the Sound exhibition.
